Google Virtual Reality Hacks
On August 25, Karina Popovich hosted a full-day Virtual Reality event in at Google’s NYC location. Over 30 students from all five boroughs and New Jersey attended the event to learn about Google’s involvement with Virtual Reality and learn some VR skills, themselves!
The event kicked off with a panel of current Google employees, who offered students valuable insight into their experience at Google, STEM careers, and the newest innovations in VR technology. Students then formed into groups of 4-5 and learned how to create 2D VR games using the game engine, Unity. After watching tutorials, the teams put their creativity to the test to create their own VR games. The team that demonstrated the most knowledge of Unity and VR concepts, in addition to team work and innovation took home Google VR headsets.
Overall, all of the participants did a phenomenal job. And everyone had a blast exploring Google, participating in a mini-hackathon, and getting swag!
